266. Emergence of Canine Leptospirosis in the U.S.: Where It’s ‘Hot’ and ‘Not’

In recent years, canine leptospirosis cases in the United States have been increasing. Should veterinary professionals and dog owners should be concerned? This session will discuss factors that contribute to the emergence of canine leptospirosis, where it is prevalent in the U.S., and risk factors.

Dr. Amanda Smith completed an MPH in veterinary public health and a Ph.D. in comparative and veterinary medicine at The Ohio State University. The focus of her Ph.D. dissertation was the epidemiology of canine leptospirosis in the United States. Dr. Smith is currently an epidemiologist at the Baltimore City Health Department and Johns Hopkins University.
