414. Techniques for Management of Equine Septic Arthritis

In this session, attendees will learn techniques for diagnosing septic arthritis in the field; gain a greater understanding of treatment options available, including options for referral and treatment on the farm; and explore current options for antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapy in horses with septic arthritis.

Megan McCracken

Dr. Megan McCracken is a graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and a diplomate of the College of Veterinary Surgeons in large animal medicine. She completed internships at the University of Georgia and Chino Valley Equine Hospital, a fellowship at Oregon State University, and an equine surgery residency at the University of Missouri. Following her residency, Dr. McCracken spent several years as an associate surgeon at Rainland Farm Equine Hospital, a sport horse-focused private practice near Seattle. In 2016, she moved to the University of Tennessee, where she ran the large animal emergency and critical care service. Since 2019, Dr. McCracken has been an equine surgeon at the University of Missouri, where her focus is equine orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, as well as equine sports medicine. Her research interests include equine pain management and septic arthritis.
